Temporal Evolution of Clear-Water Local Scour at Bridge Piers with Flow-Dependent Debris Accumulations

Previous research has shown that local scour at bridge piers is severely increased by the accumulation of woody debris around piers. However, due to unavailability accurate information regarding characteristics formed jams, shape and dimensions accumulations tested in previous laboratory experiments have had be assumed. This article provides an assessment debris-induced based on recently available knowledge about relation between potential accumulations, flow, elements. Clear-water (with without accumulation) were conducted using models with size correspond particular flow each experiment. The results showed depths obtained flow-dependent larger than a factor ranging from 1.18–2.19. analysis affected suggested similar as well dependence intensity, blockage area ratio, depth ratio.
